The Brown Daily Herald has been an independent, student-run daily newspaper since 1891, serving both the campus and Providence communities. When classes are in session, we publish online every weekday and in print every Friday.
Sections within The Herald range from editorial and opinions to multimedia, data, technology, business and our affiliated creative nonfiction magazine, post-. Both Brown and RISD students are welcome to join all teams at The Herald.
The Herald is an organization devoted to teaching hard skills and fostering community, and we pride ourselves on the culture of mentorship. We are committed to growing our staff as people, thinkers and leaders so they can use these skills for the rest of their careers. Former Heralders currently work at top organizations in media, consulting, finance, tech and the nonprofit sector.
Anyone can start at The Herald at any point in their college careers — time commitments for all starting roles are flexible. Students are welcome to try different positions and sections, with most positions not requiring applications. Below, you can explore all of our sections along with links to our interest form and respective applications.

The Herald is financially independent from the University, and the daily operations of the organization are managed entirely by students. Each year, the Business Team is responsible for generating and managing over $100,000 in operating expenses and ensuring a stable financial future for the Herald. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Brown Daily Herald business branch is tasked with generating revenue to support all of our operations, managing financial challenges and orchestrating all of our financial accounting.
Because of its small size, the Business Team has an application process. Applicants must fill out an application form and can apply for either team or both. Final interviews will then be conducted and all applicants will be notified in September.
Please fill out our interest form. For more information, come to our open house on Sept. 6 and 7. Please email anishakumar@browndailyherald.com with specific questions or for more information. If you do not receive a response within a few days, forward the email to herald@browndailyherald.com and 135@browndailyherald.com. We hope to see you soon!
